## Description

Maiden's Tower A tiny tower on a tiny islet where the Bosphorus opens into the Sea of Marmara — and somehow one of the most storied buildings in a city that has no shortage of them. Ancient sources put a structure here over two thousand years ago; the silhouette you see today is largely the 18th-century Ottoman rebuild, freshly restored and reopened to visitors in 2023. A guest on our deck at dusk, with the Maiden's Tower behind. The Legends Pick your story. In the Turkish one, a princess is locked in the tower to cheat a prophecy of death by snakebite — the snake arrives anyway, in a fruit basket. Europeans long called it Leander's Tower, borrowing the Greek tale of a lover who swam a strait each night. Both legends agree on one thing: this is a building about longing, best contemplated from the water. From the Deck The tower stands at the strait's southern gate, off Üsküdar. Cruises departing Karaköy — including our €34 group tour — pass close to it, and longer private charters can route south to circle it with the old city skyline behind. At sunset it becomes a black cut-out against the orange sky over the peninsula: domes, minarets, and one small stubborn tower on the water. Photo Tip Do not zoom in on the tower alone — its power is scale. Frame it small against the skyline and the wide water, especially in the last light. Timing in the Sunset Guide. Ask us on WhatsApp to include it in a custom charter route.
