Rain on the Bosphorus: What Happens to Your Cruise?

It is the question we get most often the night before a booking: “It says rain tomorrow — what happens to our cruise?” Here is the honest answer, in the order people actually need it.

Does the cruise run in the rain?

Usually, yes. The Bosphorus is a strait, not open sea — the water is sheltered, and a rainy evening on it is calm in a way that surprises people. Light or intermittent rain does not stop a departure: the deck has covered sections, and every yacht has an indoor lounge with the same Bosphorus view through the windows. Some of the most atmospheric photos our guests take are of the city lights blurring through rain on glass.

What if the captain cancels?

Safety comes first, and the decision belongs to the captain. If a departure is cancelled for weather, you choose between two options: reschedule to another day free of charge, or receive a full refund. That policy is written in our FAQ and applies to both private charters and the sunset group tour.

What if you want to cancel?

You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before departure — any prepayment is refunded in full, no questions asked. Inside 24 hours, contact us on WhatsApp and we will try to rebook you to another slot. Special dates such as New Year’s Eve have their own terms, stated on their pages.

When does it actually rain in Istanbul?

Istanbul summers are largely dry — from June to September, rain rarely interferes with an evening cruise. Most of the city’s rainfall arrives between November and March, and even then it tends to come in passing showers rather than all-day downpours. If your dates are flexible, check the forecast a day or two ahead and pair it with our sunset times table to pick your evening; the official Turkish forecast is at mgm.gov.tr.

A rainy-day tip from the crew

Do not write off a grey forecast too quickly. Rain on the Bosphorus often clears by evening, and the hour after a shower — washed air, low clouds catching the sunset — can be the most dramatic light of the whole week.
