Istanbul Sunset Times 2026: Month-by-Month Table for Your Bosphorus Cruise

If you are planning a cruise on the Bosphorus, the single most useful number is the time the sun actually goes down that day. Sunset in Istanbul swings by almost three hours across the year — from around 17:37 in early December to 20:40 at the end of June — so a cruise that sails “in the evening” means something very different in February than it does in July. The table below gives the exact sunset time for every month of 2026, calculated for the Karaköy waterfront where our yachts depart.

How We Time Our Cruises Around Sunset

We set the departure day by day so that you are on the water for the last, warmest hour of light — the golden hour — and still afloat when the sun drops behind the city. Golden hour on the Bosphorus typically begins roughly 45–60 minutes before the times in the table — if photography matters to you, that window is when Istanbul’s skyline, from Topkapı to the bridges, takes on the light it is famous for. Which Month Should You Choose?

June and July give you the latest sunsets of the year (20:22–20:40) and long, warm evenings — ideal if your day is packed with sightseeing and you want the cruise to close it. September and October are a favourite of returning guests: the water is calm, the evening air is still mild, and sunset moves back to 18:00–19:38, which leaves time for dinner in the city afterwards. Winter sunsets (November–February) are the earliest but often the most dramatic — low sun, clear cold air, and far fewer boats on the water. Our winter fares are also lower. Does Istanbul use daylight saving time?

No. Türkiye has stayed on UTC+3 year-round with no daylight saving since 2016. This is why sunset tables published before 2016 are often an hour out for Istanbul, and why the clocks do not change here in spring or autumn.
