Republic Day Fireworks on the Bosphorus from a Yacht, 29 October

Short answer: On 29 October Istanbul celebrates Republic Day, and the evening ends with fireworks over the Bosphorus. Our special sailing leaves Karaköy at 19:00 and returns at 21:00, so you are on the water as the city lights up and the show begins, away from the crowds on the shore. What happens on the Bosphorus on 29 October

Cumhuriyet Bayramı marks the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey on 29 October 1923. It is a public holiday, and in Istanbul the celebrations gather along the water. The centrepiece is a fireworks show over the Bosphorus, and the launch points change from year to year. In 2023, the centenary year, the official programme put a drone, light and fireworks show at the 15 July Martyrs’ Bridge, the first Bosphorus bridge, between Ortaköy and Beylerbeyi; it ran from 19:50 to 20:15. In 2013 the shows were held between the bridge and the Maiden’s Tower, with fireworks fired from 16 points; the light show began at 19:30 and the fireworks at 19:45. Format and timing change every year, and the official programme usually comes out only shortly before the day, so we do not print a 2026 start time here. Why watch from the water

The Ortaköy and Beylerbeyi waterfronts fill up early on a holiday evening. From a yacht you have the same sky with none of the crowd: room to move, a table for dinner, and the bridge framed by open water rather than by the heads in front of you.

The lights are on before you board. Sunset on 29 October 2026 is at 18:05 (Turkey stays on UTC+3 all year) and it is dark by 18:32, so when we leave at 19:00 the palaces and bridges are already lit. Our Bosphorus sunset guide explains that timing.

One practical point. The authorities set a safety perimeter on the water around the show. Our captain positions the yacht within the permitted area with a clear line of sight to the show; we do not promise a specific distance.

How the evening runs: 19:00–21:00 from Karaköy

Departure and return are fixed. The show slot in the middle follows the official programme, which is usually published only shortly before the day; we send it to every guest with a confirmed charter.

Should the city announce a show slot later than 21:00, we extend the sailing so it still ends after the finale.

What it costs

The shared Republic Day sailing is €34 per person, or €40 per person with the wine package, for the fixed 19:00–21:00 departure from Karaköy. A private charter starts from €150 per hour with a two-hour minimum, and the whole yacht is yours for the booked hours; the 19:00–21:00 slot is exactly that minimum. Boarding and getting there

Standard boarding is at Karaköy, where the Golden Horn meets the Bosphorus, a short walk from the T1 tram, the M2 metro at Şişhane and the ferry piers. On a holiday evening the shore roads are busy, so tram, metro or ferry is the surer way to reach us.
