Eves and the half-day rule
Under Law 2429 the eves of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are holidays from 13:00, and Republic Day begins at 13:00 on 28 October. When a national or public holiday ends on a Friday, the following Saturday is a full day off for public offices; in 2027 that applies to 2 January, 24 April and 30 October. In the private sector the half days and Saturdays depend on the employer. A holiday that falls on a weekend (1 May in 2027) is not moved.
A holiday on the Bosphorus
On holiday mornings the Bosphorus is at its quietest: the city wakes late, the water is empty and the bridges are silent. A two-hour private yacht cruise leaves Karaköy, passes the Maiden’s Tower, Dolmabahçe and Ortaköy and reaches the fortresses by the second bridge before turning back; the whole yacht is from €150 per hour, 2-hour minimum, soft drinks included. The price is the same for up to 12 guests, and each guest above 12 adds €25 once; for a larger family, the 20-guest and 50-guest pages have sample budgets. If you prefer the evening, the sunset group cruise leaves every day, and on the evening of 29 October there is the Republic Day fireworks sailing. Sunset and dusk times are on the Istanbul sunset times page, and the year’s shows are in the fireworks calendar. Holiday and long-weekend dates fill early; a deposit of at least 30% confirms the date, and for these fixed dates the cancellation terms are stated in the written quote.
