Somewhere between the budget approval and the calendar invite, every company dinner in Istanbul runs into the same question: where do we actually put sixty people for three hours so that they talk to each other, eat properly, and remember it in March?
The Bosphorus is the obvious answer and the confusing one, because two completely different products share the same name. This page separates them, compares the realistic venue options for a company dinner, and gives you the numbers and the questions your finance department will ask.
Disclosure: we are one of the options here. Constantine Yachts operates under AST Tourism, licensed by TÜRSAB (A-805), working on the Bosphorus since 1967. We have tried to be useful rather than flattering, including a section on when a yacht is the wrong choice for your event.
Two things called a dinner cruise
A public dinner cruise sells seats. You buy a per-person ticket on a large vessel, you share the room with other groups, the menu is fixed, and there is usually a show. It is priced per head and it is the cheaper of the two.
A private yacht dinner is a charter with catering added. The yacht is yours for the evening, there is nobody else on board, you decide the route, the timing and the menu, and the catering is quoted separately from the yacht. This is what companies almost always mean when they say they want a dinner on the water, even when they start the conversation using the words dinner cruise.
The distinction matters commercially. A per-person ticket cannot be turned into a private event, and a private charter is not sold per head. If you ask four suppliers for a price and one of them answers per person, you are comparing two different products.
Planning a private dinner rather than a company event? Our private dinner cruise page covers the same evening from the couple-or-family side.
The realistic options for a company dinner
| Option | How it is priced | Best for | Where it disappoints |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private yacht charter with catering | Yacht by the hour (ours is 150 euro per hour, two-hour minimum), catering quoted separately per head | Groups who want a venue nobody else is in, a moving view, and a fixed end time | Heavy presentations, very large headcounts, guests with mobility difficulties |
| Public dinner cruise boat | Per person, fixed menu, often with a show | Small teams and tight budgets where privacy is not the point | You share the room, you cannot change the timing, and it is not your event |
| Restaurant with a Bosphorus view | Per head minimum spend, or a set menu | Sit-down dinners with speeches and a fixed table plan | The view is static, and a private room is rarely truly private |
| Hotel ballroom or event venue | Room hire plus per-head catering, plus AV | Conferences, awards nights, anything needing a stage and screens | It looks like every other corporate evening, in any city |
Most company dinners come down to a choice between the first and the last. The ballroom is safer and more forgettable; the yacht is the one people photograph.
What a private yacht dinner actually costs
Two numbers, kept separate on purpose, because that is how you keep control of the budget.
The yacht. Ours is 150 euro per hour for the whole vessel, with a two-hour minimum. A three-hour company evening is therefore 450 euro for the venue itself, whether you bring twelve people or sixty. There is no port tax, no booking fee and no service charge added at the end.
The catering. Quoted separately, per person, according to the menu you choose. This is deliberate: a canapé reception and a seated three-course dinner are different budgets, and bundling them into one per-head figure is how suppliers hide margin. Ask for the menu and the price on the same page.
The practical consequence is that the venue cost per guest falls as the group grows. At twelve guests, three hours of yacht is under 40 euro a head before food. At sixty guests it is under 8 euro. Compare that with a room hire plus minimum spend and the maths usually surprises people.
The five questions your finance and HR teams will ask
Can we get a proper invoice? Yes, and this is worth confirming with any supplier before you fall in love with a venue. A licensed travel agency can issue a corporate invoice that a finance department will accept. An informal boat rental often cannot.
What happens if the headcount changes? The yacht price does not move with headcount, which is the quiet advantage of charter pricing. Catering does, so agree a cut-off date for final numbers.
What about dietary requirements and alcohol? Both are catering decisions rather than yacht decisions. Vegetarian, vegan and halal menus are arranged the same way any menu is. Drinks work both ways: a full bar or a completely alcohol-free evening, whichever suits the group. Alcohol-free company dinners are entirely normal on the Bosphorus rather than an awkward exception.
What is the weather plan? Istanbul evenings are reliable in summer and less so in November. Ask what happens if the forecast turns: our cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure, which is the answer you want in writing before you book anything.
Who is responsible on the night? A licensed operator with a local phone number, a named contact and a crew on board. This is the difference that only matters once, and when it matters it matters completely.
When a yacht is the wrong choice
We would rather tell you now than on the evening.
If your event is really a presentation. Slides, a stage, a lectern and a room that goes properly dark: that is a ballroom. A yacht can handle a short speech and a toast, not a two-hour deck of quarterly numbers.
If mobility is a concern. Boarding involves a gangway and there are steps on board. For guests who cannot manage that comfortably, a waterside restaurant gives the same view without the boarding.
If the group is very large. Above a couple of hundred guests you are into a different class of vessel and a different kind of planning. We handle up to 200 across our own yacht and partner fleet; beyond that, a venue is usually the honest answer.
If nobody can commit to a time. A yacht leaves when it leaves. If half your guests will drift in between seven and nine, a restaurant absorbs that and a departure time does not.
If those do not apply, the water is genuinely the better room. For the practical planning side, our corporate event planning guide covers timing, run of show and catering formats in detail, and the corporate charter page has the yacht itself.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a dinner cruise and a private yacht dinner?
A public dinner cruise sells a per-person seat on a shared vessel with a fixed menu. A private yacht dinner is a charter with catering added: the yacht is yours, nobody else is on board, and you decide the route, the timing and the menu. Companies planning a team dinner almost always want the second one.
How much does a corporate dinner on a yacht cost in Istanbul?
The yacht and the food are quoted separately. Constantine Yachts charges 150 euro per hour for the whole vessel with a two-hour minimum, so a three-hour evening is 450 euro for the venue regardless of headcount, with no port tax, booking fee or service charge added. Catering is quoted per person according to the menu.
How many guests can a corporate yacht event take?
Most private charter yachts in Istanbul handle roughly twelve to forty guests comfortably. Larger events need a bigger vessel or more than one yacht, arranged in advance. Constantine Yachts handles corporate groups up to 200 across its own yacht and partner fleet.
Can you issue a corporate invoice for a company event?
Yes. Constantine Yachts operates under AST Tourism, a licensed travel agency (TÜRSAB A-805), and issues invoices that corporate finance departments accept. This is worth confirming with any supplier before booking, because informal boat rentals often cannot.
Can catering be alcohol free or halal for a company dinner?
Yes. Menus including vegetarian, vegan, halal and fully alcohol free evenings are arranged as part of the catering, which is quoted separately from the yacht.
What happens if the weather is bad on the evening of the event?
Ask every supplier for the cancellation terms in writing before booking. At Constantine Yachts cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure, which lets you act on a forecast rather than hope.
